Board Members of Cornerstone Christian Academy
Dr. Steven Amburgey graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in May of 2005. In June of 2005 the Amburgeys relocated to Abingdon, Virginia. In the spring of 2012, Dr. Amburgey opened his own dental practice in Chilhowie, Virginia. Outside of work, he is a family man who loves spending time with his wife, Shelley, and three children. Dr. Amburgey is a faithful attendee of Abingdon Bible Church and he volunteers at the free dental clinic in Abingdon, Virginia, on a rotating schedule.
Scott Boggs and his wife Autumn are the parents of a daughter, Sydney, and two sons, Griffin and Brant. He is a member at Highlands Fellowship, where he serves on the Elementary Drama Team. Scott served in the US Navy then completed a BS in Wildlife Science and Biology at VA Tech. He currently works as an investment advisor for UBS in Kingsport and serves on the LEAD Bristol steering committee. He has also coached various youth sports including JV and Varsity football, Abingdon Midget League Football, Abingdon Little League.
Clay Brinson is active in our community as the Medical Director of VCA Highlands Animal Hospital. He received a BS degree in Animal Science and Biology from the University of Georgia in 1976 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UGA College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. He has been married to his wife, Gail, for 36 years and has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. He is currently also serving as an elder at Abingdon Bible Church.
Bruce Dando joins our board with experience from several other school boards including Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Lakeland Christian School in Lakeland, FL. He studied transportation management at Penn State and served as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. He and his wife, Carolyn, attend Abingdon Presbyterian Church where Bruce serves as an elder. He is a retired FBI agent and actively involved in local prison ministries.
Matt Dando has resided in Abingdon for 9 years. He and his wife Dana met at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA. Matt is a technical consultant for Hewlett Packard. He has volunteered with the Penny F. Garrett Sarcoma Foundation and Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center to support cancer research. They have four sons and attend Abingdon Bible Church.
Jim Daugherty has served as CEO of several health care related businesses over the past 35 years. He has also served on several private school and community college boards. He and his wife, Sue, have two children and two grandchildren that attend Cornerstone. They attend
Celebration Church.
Bill King is a native of Radford, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Bill and his wife,
Libby, moved to Abingdon in 1981 and have three children and three grandchildren. He is currently Vice President at Thompson & Litton, an area engineering and architectural firm in Wise, VA. Bill teaches Sunday school and is a member of Abingdon Bible Church.
Dr. French Moore III graduated from MCV School of Dentistry in May of 1982. In June he married Laura and moved to Germany where he served in the US Army Dental Corps. Dr. Moore moved back to Abingdon in 1985 and joined his father's dental practice. He has 3 grown children and Buddy, who still lives at home and attends CCA. He is a member of the Christian Dental Association and has served on mission trips in Ecuador and Haiti. He currently is an elder at Abingdon Bible Church.
Dr. Emily Shields is a native of Dallas, TX. She completed her undergraduate work at King College in Bristol, TN, with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Biology. She then obtained her Doctor of Medicine and Master in Healthcare Administration degrees. After completing a neurology residence at the University of Louisville in 2010, she and her husband, Robert, and three children moved to Abingdon. Dr. Shields is a Neurologist at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She and her family attend Highlands Fellowship. Cornerstone is an answer to prayer for the Shields who came to Abingdon with faith that God would provide a local Christ-centered education for their young children.
