Cornerstone Christian Academy Selects New Head of School
The Board of Directors of Cornerstone Christian Academy has named Dr. Clay Brinson as Head of School for the 2011-2012 school year. Dr. Brinson will begin work on July 1st as the school finalizes plans to welcome students for the first day of school in September.
Dr. Brinson stated, “God has given me this unique opportunity to be involved in His plans for a Christian school in our community. I have been blessed to serve the Abingdon area as a veterinarian for the past 30 years, and I am now blessed that God has called me to serve the families of our community as the Head of School for Cornerstone Christian Academy.”
Dr. Brinson served as the medical director for 26 years at VCA Highlands Animal Hospital in Abingdon. During that time, the practice grew from two doctors to nine doctors and a staff of forty-five.
Dr. Brinson received his BS in Biology and Animal Science from the University of Georgia in 1976 followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia in 1981.
For the past twelve years, Dr. Brinson has traveled as a speaker and teacher with Canopy Ministries sharing his passion and call to teach others a biblical worldview. Additionally, Dr. Brinson has travelled with Answers in Genesis and the Institute for Creation Research to Israel, Australia and New Zealand.
During his time as medical director, Dr. Brinson mentored prospective veterinary students in all aspects of veterinary medicine, teaching them through leadership and from experience. Dr. Brinson has also served on the organizing Board of Cornerstone Christian Academy since October of 2010 and is an elder at Abingdon Bible Church.

“I want my involvement with Cornerstone to be a lasting legacy of my life because the education and spiritual development of our children is so important,” Brinson said. “Cornerstone Christian Academy’s mission is consistent with my philosophy of Christian education: we live in God’s creation and we must understand how God’s word integrates in all aspects of our lives instead of compartmentalizing it to fit our own needs. At Cornerstone we will teach our students how to integrate Biblical principles, acknowledging God as their foundation.”
Dr Brinson has been married to his wife, Gail, for 36 years and has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. The Board of Directors is grateful for his commitment to this school and his deep dedication to our Lord. Please be in prayer for Dr. Brinson as he assumes this new role in our community.
